Atlus has traditionally been known as a very small time publisher. Respobsible for localizing niche Japanese titles like Persona and Trauma Center, they usually print a very small number of copies for each game, and after that initial run, their games become hard to find very quickly. Their latest title, Demon's Souls, was no different. The game receieved mixed reviews in Japan, developing a reputation for being infuriatingly difficult, so it isn't inconceivable why they wouldn't expect the game to be a big seller.
Well, Atlus thought wrong. Tthe game has sparked up after numerous publications gave the game glowing reviews and word of mouth has driven demand even further. Many gamers that didn't pre-order the game are finding retail chains across the nation out of stock, souls crushed. Fear not, Atlus has responded to the game's rampant popularity, promising more shipments are due soon. Speaking from their twitter account, the publisher stated "Demand for Demon's Souls has been tremendous--thank you! More copies are on the way to stores; please keep spreading the #demonssouls love!"
I'm still working through Demon's Souls for our own review, but I'll tell you this much - I highly recommend it. |
