Sony PS3 Blu-ray Remote Control

Since the PlayStation 3 is a Blu-ray player and has no support for any type of IR device, only Bluetooth, it is perfectly natural and a nice fit for Sony to release a proper and official remote for the next-generation console. Sure the SIXAXIS controller does work just fine if you want the bare essentials of control over your Blu-ray movies, but to get the full effect and to easily navigate menus and such you have to look no further than the official Blu-ray remote from Sony themselves.

The Blu-ray remote runs off of Bluetooth technology hooking up with the system in similar ways that the controllers link up with it. The controller has a very fair number of buttons on it and is not overly sized, nor undersized. The controller is about 8.5 inches tall and only about 1 inch in width. This makes for a very comfortable controller to hold in your hands and scroll around in your Blu-ray movies.

The button layout is also well done as the three main buttons, the play, stop, and pause buttons are all conveniently enlarged in the bottom middle of the controller where your hand will most likely be most of the time. To the right and left of these keys are your controls to fast forward and skip chapters. Towards the top of the controller you will find a number pad to input chapters and such as well as change audio, subtitles, angles, etc. Directly below the number pad you will find four conveniently colored buttons, red, green, blue, and yellow, to represent the keys in the Blu-ray menu system. Right smack dab in the middle of the controller is also the PlayStation button as well as the D-pad with an enter button right in the middle of it. This allows for easy navigation through the menus of movies.
