Another welcome change is the addition of Klose Combat – the series of attacks that plays out as if it were based on Quick-Time Events. Players will grab a hold of their opponent and enter into Klose Combat where they can press any of the face buttons to consecutively hit their opponent with strong attacks. The victim can try to dodge or counter the attacks by simultaneously hitting the button the aggressor presses. All three of these gameplay changes are significant enough to distance MK vs. DC from any other Mortal Kombat title.
As if you didn’t know already, the incorporation of DC Comics characters is the feature that is the most talked about. There are a total of 11 characters from DC Comics showing their faces in Mortal Kombat including: Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Catwoman, Captain Marvel, Flash, Lex Luthor, Wonder Woman, The Joker, Deathstroke, and Darkseid. Darkseid is one of the three bosses and has to be unlocked to be fully playable. Of the 11 characters, Captain Marvel and Flash turned out to be the most successful characters in terms of power. They both feature super power moves that are easy to take advantage and overwhelm your opponents. Out of six online matches, I went 6-0 without losing one match of the fightsm so beware when you enter online encounters and your opponent selects one of the two combatants.
Of course, there are 11 Mortal Kombat characters selected to contrast the 11 DC Universe characters. Baraka, Jax, Kano, Shang Tsung, Raiden, Scorpion, Liu Kang, Kitana, Sonya Blade, Sub-Zero, and Shao Kahn are the 11 participants showing their face in MK vs. DC. With only 22 characters found in MK vs. DC, it gets boring after a few hours of gameplay, so here’s to hoping Midway Games introduces new characters via downloadable content. It’s already rumored that Kung Lao and Doomsday will appear sooner or later as downloadable content. If I had to choose eight characters to make it an even 30, I’d wish Midway would add the following: Johnny Cage, Quan Chi, Goro, and Kung Lao for the Mortal Kombat side and Doomsday, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, and Solomon Grundy for the DC side. |
