After Bang Camaro, we moved on to FFTL (From First to Last) and spoke with Travis Richter and Matt Manning. As a group, they definitely prefer the Xbox 360, but we won't fault them too much for that.
"Travis: We all have Xbox 360's, but that's only cause our publishing company, EA, hasn't given us one [PlayStation3] to play on!! See you on Live!
Matt: Xbox 360. We all play mostly online games and it's hard to beat the Xbox Live community"
While FFTL has gone through a bit of a rough spot in recent years, they are still loving it and fully intend to keep rockin' on.
"Travis: I would say my love for playing live and connecting with people... I'm always going to have a passion for music, and I think everyone in the band is the same way.
Matt: I think it's because we love what we do and really have no clue how to do anything else haha."
Getting FFTL's music into the game has done a ton to increase their exposure, but that is not the only reason they do it. They also get to let their inner geek run wild and the free games don't seem to hurt at all. Recently, they had the pleasure of remixing some music for Red Alert 3 and they absolutely loved it.
"Travis: It was fun, kind of flying by the seat of your pants... at first we were like... oh this is just an industrial/numetal type riff, but when we started picking it out we were like... ok this a bit more involved, so we worked hard to remake it and do our own version.
Matt: It was really awesome. We have never done anything like that before. It was definitely something we would love to do more of."
When not on their recent tour, appropriately titled Slayin' N00bz, they have been trying to get their hands on Left4Dead as much as possible, but that is not where their gaming ambitions stop.
"Matt: I think it's just starting to influence us. We are writing a new record right now and I think we want to kinda write some tunes that would be perfect to put in games."
In the next 5 years, they hope to still be rocking forward, making games for music and if their opportunity arises, a nice shot at being the first band to play on the Moon.
In the meantime, they are making a stop in Australia in February, if you're in the area they are definitely a worthy band to check out.
Unfortunately for PS3 Fans, things didn't get much better from here, with Young Dre The Truth and Jupiter One both being strong proponents of the Xbox 360 and the Wii respectively.
"YDTT: 360. I just enjoy the graphics and the controller better."
"Jupiter One: Which one is more like Nintendo? I was always a Nintendo boy. Sega sucks.."
Naturally, that didn't stop us from asking a few more questions.
YDTT, having grown up playing Madden, he was beyond pleased to get his music in Madden '09.
"It's a dream come true. It's the best thing to go long for a touchdown and hear your song come up.
The accomplishment. The feeling of success. The taste of success. Playing a game that I grew up playing and now I'm grown and able to hear my music in the background is phenomenal. Monumental."
If things go his way, he would love to see remakes of titles like Tecmo Football, Ten Yard Fight, and Pitfall. In the meantime, he is loving being a part of NFL Tour and having his music used not just in the game, but also having it advertised.
"The only thing better would be for me to be a character in the game."
On the music front, YDTT has been involved in the rap scene for years. While the genre has grown and evolved over the years, he doesn't mind and actually loves some of the changes. He just had one thing to put out there.
"For those artists who remain true to themselves, I applaud them for their growth."
On a lighter note, we briefly touched on the recent rise of the genre Nerdcore with YDTT. Much to our surprise, he was interested. Just sounds like he needs a little extra support from his fans to push him over the edge, so if you like Nerdcore and would like to see a phenomenal RAP artist give it a go, start spreading the word.
"I would love to dip my toes into anything or any site that people are interested in and feeling me."
Beyond music and games, we can look forward to a couple of independent features that Young Dre The Truth is working on. PS3Center.net was able to get a few exclusive details regarding these coming features directly from the source.
"One of them is a realistic and magical fantasy that has to do with the realities of money and the extreme influence it has on people. The other is about 3 brothers who are from broken homes and grow up to have 3 very different lives that cross paths in a violent manner. Both in writing stages at the moment."
It was great chatting with YDTT and we look forward to seeing the results of his work! |
