PS3Center.net: Droplitz Review
Posted on August 24, 2009 by Darren

At its core, Droplitz is a simplistic game, requiring you to rotate dials in order to create a path to let the Droplitz, which are essentially balls, reach a point zone. The game is very reminiscent of a board game (one which I can’t remember the name of at the moment), but don't let that dissuade you hardcore gamers.

Although the game may seem easy at first, appearances can be deceiving. After over a week of play, I still have not managed to truly master it and score big points. This is where the developers managed to succeed where a lot of PSN/XBLA titles fail: creating a game that anyone can pick up and play while still retaining an added level of depth.

Once you begin to understand the game and work out how to truly master it, you’ll never want to put it down—it’s addicting to rack up those big points. Of course, this is under Classic Mode, which gets increasingly difficult as you progress as well as the Droplitz begin to drop faster, and as a result, so does the amount of time you have to connect the pipes to make it to the point zone.

However, the other modes add a twist to the gameplay. Zendurance is a lot like Classic, but without the difficulty increase. Power-Up is again like Classic, but gives you power-ups that you can use to bomb a portion of the board, awarding you a handful of new dials. The final mode is Infection, but unfortunately I have yet to unlock it as the game requires a score of 350,000 on Power-Up, and I’m stuck at close to 50,000. So I apologize for sucking at the game, and I’ll update the review if I ever manage to unlock it. From what I can tell, Infection has some of the dials infected and… they do something... yeah, sorry.

The only problem I have with the game is the music—although some of it is quite relaxing, the main theme in the options menu and the first stage is quite annoying, sounding like the same three notes repeated over and over again, although eventually you begin to zone out the music and everything else around you with your attempt to rack up this points.

Droplitz is a nice puzzle game to zone out with. Its system of unlocking new levels and game modes by reaching certain scores, although sometimes annoying, can also be very rewarding—especially once you’ve just reached that score to unlock a new game mode or level.

6.0
Graphics
The graphics are bog standard affair, they do there job but don't add or take anything away from the game.
4.5
Sound
The music can easily become repeative and very annoying but luckily as you get into the game you begin to zone out the music.
8.0
Gameplay
Because of it's pick up and play gameplay, the game is very enjoyable and easily addicting. One downside will probably be it's very steep difficulity curve that will turn most people away.
9.0
Replay Value
There are a few game modes that add a few twists to the gameplay that keep the modes fresh, and of course because of the games addictiveness you pick it up time and time again to try the different modes and arenas you've unlocked to go that bit extra more
7.2
Overall
Some might regret the lack of multiplayer, but there's plenty of solid single player puzzling to be done here. The art style and music don't show a lot of personality, but the gameplay is simple and addicting. It'll claim several hours of your life.
