PS3 - it only does marketing

You need look no further than the most recent sales data to see how much Sony's new marketing kick has helped the PS3. In September, Sony shifted  491,000 PS3s in North America alone, topping even the market leading Wii for the first time ever.  GameStop VP of Marketing and Merchandising Tony Bartel is expecting the PS3's momentum to continue into October as well, which saw the release of three critically acclaimed PS3 exclusives, Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2, and Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time.

I was skeptical when Sony's Senior Director of Corporate Communications Patrick Seybold told me that Sony was still planning on selling 13 million PS3s for fiscal 2009.  At the time Sony was down from the same period in the previous year, in which they only sold 10 million consoles worldwide.  However, it seems that Sony's marketing machine has finally hit it's stride.  With an unprecedented line up gracing the PS3 in the upcoming months, it seems like the only place Sony can go is up.  The PS3 - it only does marketing.
