PCN Review: Modern Warfare 2 Controller & Headset for PS3

Modern Warfare 2 Wireless Combat Controller

The extra grip on the side (styled like a gun grip), and the increased size of the controller would be very beneficial for those that complain about the small size of the standard Dualshock 3 controller. The triggers are slightly smaller, but a lot more like real triggers. This means your trigger finger won't be slipping off the controller any more. The digital camouflage look of the controller is also quite well done, I was expecting it to look a little tacky, but to be honest it looks very good.

The unique features that this controller possesses are backlit analog sticks and two extra buttons that can be remapped on-the-fly. The analog stick backlight is really just a green led, and it looks quite bad. It completely goes against the design of the rest of the controller, so most of the time I kept this option off. The two extra buttons, which can be found on the back of the controller, are programmed with two little switches, again on the back of the controller. Although this feature may be useful for some gamers, it doesn't offer you any extra combat moves in the game, because it duplicates one of the face buttons or L3/R3 buttons. They were however useful for certain sections of Modern Warfare 2.

The controller is wireless, although requires the use of a dongle, and is also fully rechargeable, a feature that most third party PS3 controllers don't offer. It also comes with a bonus combat case, which allows for easy storage of the controller, wireless dongle, USB charge wire, and even the headset if you have it. The biggest issue with the combat controller is that it has neither SixAxis control nor rumble, yet it is more expensive than a standard controller. I also had problems with the R1/L1 buttons, if I didn't press them in the center of the button, they would not register correctly as a button press 100% of the time.

Overall the design of the combat controller is very good, although I don't see why they didn't take this opportunity to make the controller more like an Xbox 360 controller. The triggers are also much improved, and if you do have issues with the PS3 controller, this one could be used as a replacement.

No mention of who the manufacturer is, price or where it can be purchased. Is it amateur hour here or what?
