Yes it’s that time of the year again. A time when stores have amazing deals on a Friday, kids go crazy to see Santa in the mall, and of course your Game of the Year awards. PS3Center is going all out this year by having a weekly feature about our nominees and why they were chosen. At the end of every feature we will list our nominees for the category, but not the winner. You will have to wait until our December GOTY awards to see the winners! Stay tuned as we will be giving away some prizes and be looking for your feedback on the overall winners too! Yep that’s right, you can have a say in who wins…after all it is you guys that are playing the games. This week we start things off with Best First Person Shooter and Best Third Person Shooter categories.
Best FPS
Our Nominees are:
Killzone 2
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
FEAR 2
Wolfenstien
Here is what we said:

There are really only two contenders for this category; Killzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2. Whilst there were other FPS titles that were good, Killzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 were both more anticipated and delivered. Modern Warfare 2 is a great game, but it's campaign was extremely short, and you felt no connection with the story. The multiplayer is however, one of the best multiplayer modes this generation. On the other hand, Killzone 2 had a great campaign, and its graphics are still unrivaled, but the multiplayer does have some issues.
Balancing up the pros and cons, I'd like to see Killzone 2 win, because in my opinion, the single player matters the most in a game and Modern Warfare's single player was controversial for the hell of it, yet lacked any real substance.

As for KZ2 versus MW2, I can't really comment since I haven't played MW2 yet. I know Dustin doesn't like KZ2, but I definitely think it should be considered. It's still the best looking PS3 game out there (the lighting still takes my breath away) and the single player had some epic set pieces - even if the pacing was a bit off. There were a few quirks to it though, and I don't like how GG pandered to the masses of twitch shooters and changed the controls because of it. Other than a few simple mistakes, this game is absolutely worth winning the category.
Dustin
People are going to hate me for stating this, but Call of Duty is the much deserving game in this category. The game is spectacular, not because of mind blowing graphics or out of this world gameplay, but because it’s fun as hell. That’s all I want in a game and this generation is too caught up in “well we look better” to focus on the fun. Not only that but while it may be short, the single player campaign in this game absolutely blew me away. It had me gripping the controller tightly, had amazingly intense action, and the story was way more emotional driven than Killzone 2 was to me.
I feel bad leaving out our other nominee’s in this discussion, but these two games are breathtaking in every way. Both Fear 2 and Wolfenstien deserve honorable mentions as well. However it is now up to you (the readers) to let us know what your choice is!
