If you've been keeping up with the PlayStation news lately, you'll no doubt know that we still don't know what the PlayStation motion controller is named. It's been called the PlayStation Wand, the Sphere, and many other unconfirmed names. The first whiff of a real name was "Gem," because Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello mentioned this name when talking about Sony's motion controller. A few weeks later it was rumored to be called "Arc," which has now been dismissed as a mere codename.
However, codename or not, it still implies that there may be some big differences between the concept that Sony showed us last E3, and no doubt we'll see the final design of the controller at this year's E3.

So what does the name "Arc" suggest? The first and most obvious difference that we could see is a different default attachment on the top of the controller. Sony never mentioned that the top attachment would have to be a sphere in order to be recognized by the PlayStation Eye camera, so we could be seeing an arc-shaped attachment at launch. Early Sony patents also confirm that the top attachment is removable, so we could see games using different shapes for different functions. |
