I don’t want my “Thinking Out Loud” weekly features to turn into rant threads, but that’s why this one is special. You will get another one this weekend that covers something (secret for now) in the industry as well, so no worries.
However the topic that’s been dangling over my head recently is something that’s very debatable. This is an extremely annoying nuisance on one side, and not so much of a problem on the other. What I’m talking about of course is problems with online gameplay, such as one shot kills. How many times do you pop in your favorite game, get going for a while, only for some “noob” to jump in the game and begins raping everyone with the easiest gun in the game? You probably say a few choice words, throw the controller a couple times, and possibly kill a few cute bunnies along the way.
So my question is why do developers continue to put in such things that people find ever so annoying? Remember Resistance Fall of Man, not R2, when everyone was handing out a shotgun to the face like Halloween candy? What did Insomniac do? Did the best they could to update that specific game, then completely ticked off the noobs by weakening it in Resistance 2.
Now more recently you have Infinity Ward, which is an even brighter bulb on the tree. Not only did they decide to put in shotguns that obliterate you miles away, but Einstein walked into the office and said “let’s not only let them whore out one shotty, but two!” No I’m not hating on Infinity Ward, they are good guys and Modern Warfare 2 is an amazing game. However why? Why would you do this? You guys just fixed the grenade spam from the first game only to create an even bigger issue. |
