Review - Call of Duty: Black Ops

Call of Duty Black Ops Escalation Review
Posted on June 13, 2011 by Dustin S.

Call of Duty Black Ops is at it again with the second map pack. The first map pack, First Strike, wasn’t that well received by fans. The maps were decent and the zombie map was a bit challenging. Well Treyarch decided to step up to the plate and offer a huge package for Escalation. In simple terms, if you plan on buying just one map pack, make sure it’s this one.

Escalation consists of 4 new multiplayer maps, and one new zombie map. The four maps are Zoo, Convoy, Hotel, and Stockpile. The new zombie map of course being the long awaited Call of the Dead. Each map is on a much larger scale, which is something new for Call of Duty and has its positive and negative perks. There are a lot of camping spots, so your stereotypical noobs will be sitting in these areas getting the easy kills for a majority of the game.

The positive side of these maps is they seem to be a lot more complex than the other maps in the game and from the previous First Strike content. There are a ton of corners, elevators, and several ways into every area of the map. You will get stuck in moments where the spawn system will screw you over and put the opposing team behind you, but that happens a lot in Call of Duty and is expected. However the added challenge has made these maps by far my most favorite in the game. When teams first start out, people are not chucking grenades across the map. The people that blindly run across the map usually get shot while others are hiding and peeking every chance they get. Its fun and it’s exciting.
