The most amazing thing about Dead Or Alive 4 is that while it's visually a marvel to look at, physics, speed, character models, et al, beneath its shiny exterior this 3D fighter plays a lot like DOA3 and DOA Ultimate. That's not to say there isn't a whole lot of new stuff to be found, but the build we played at X05 is the exact same one we played today.

Thus, we have little new to report. Of course, we're IGN, so we always have millions of details to discuss, but even that's a little tough here. The two levels that were the most fun to play include monkeys and shocking electric cables. The level with the monkeys in it (Casalona Hills) is absolutely beautiful. You'll fight at the top of a giant temple, in a stone courtyard with stairs on multiple sides, and naturally, if you throw or combo somebody off the basic stage and down the stairs, they take damage each and every step down. Not too much health is lost, but seeing as how quickly one's health lasts in these bouts, every little bit of health helps.

The second loveable level is the new Las Vegas ring. The crowd environment is huge. People bob up and down, and the general amount of color and movement is impressive -- though you won't even really notice it when you're engaged in mortal combat, erm, I mean, hand-to-hand martial arts face pummeling. The best thing about the ring's ropes are how damn dangerous they are. They're electric. You can kick someone into them, and then combo the guts out of them, as they bounce off the electric ropes, taking double damage. IT'S OH SO SATISFYING. Also, it can lead to especially short fights if you're not careful.

All of the new characters -- Eliot, Kokoro, and La Mariposa (the new, wildly dressed African-American chick) were playable. Kokoro is a dinky, quick fighter, while La Mariposa mixes heavy hitting and dazzling throw moves with the South American dance fighting, Capoeira. Other playable characters (not all of which were playable) include Hitomi, Kasumi, Lei Fang, Tina, Helena, Christie, Ayane, Jann Lee, Gun Fu, Bass, Hayate, Ryu Hayabusa, Zack, and Leon. By the way, Zack's Tell-tubby outfit is ridiculously metallic, shiny, and even funnier looking than before.

When we get more hands-on time, we'll spill our collective fighting guts on DOA4. Count on it.

DOA4 is one of the reasons I got an Xbox 360. I was just so impressed with DOA3 and DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball. I've already got it on pre-order at a couple of places just in case. I have no idea how popular it's going to be so I'm playing it safe for now.

do you think people actually like this game because of the fighting or do you think they like it to see the women in the game? Of course when I am referring to "them" i mean males.

you mean rumble roses xx? I think my friend wants the game just for this reason, but I suppose he is not the majority of people so I guess others might just like the fighting.

I picked up DOA 4 last week, and it is a pretty good game. The fighting styles and moves are great. The game is a little "sexed" up by whatever *shrugs shoulders*

I guess they got scared that not enough people would buy the game for its style so thy got a virtual breast augmentation.....for all the female characters.

Juicy...please...if someone post crap, do not continue with it as it is now a crap conversation instead of crap post. I dont want to deduct you any posts, but keep this up in the 360 discussions and I will have to.

^ huh??

Anyway I loved DOA on ps2...shame they only went with xbox but when DOA4 looks extremely good. I still have yet to play it and it's not because of the revealing characters haha even though Kasumi is my favourite. The game is just so action packed and performing attacks isn't frustrating.
