ok, im trying to put songs and videos on my ps3 and different backgronds. i have a junk drive and it reads it on my ps3 but dosnt read the stuff on it. what can i do so this works? thanks!

mabye first it's called a jump drive, mabye you need to save it on somthing else like a memory card then try again

or get an actual internal 2.5' serial ata hard drive

you need to check the filetypes. you cant use formats and codecs that are not supported on the ps3.
if it is a hard drive sata plug in type of thing (im assuming it is a usb drive) you just need to make sure the files are sortet properly, or hit triangle, go to view all and then locate them that way.
remember, to view photos you have to go to that column of the xmb, same with music and vids. let me know if this helps at all.

Have you tried pressing triangle then going "show all".
Filetypes are usually the main problem.
Songs have to be MP3 and Videos cant be DX10(or somethin like tht) or AVI. AVC videos work well though you might just need a converter.

You need to arrange it properly for the PS3 to see it.
