First off let me start by saying I'm a complete moron when it comes to technology. If you can help I'll need it spelled out in simpleton terms.

I just purchased a 40 gb PS3 with GTA 4. I don't have the internet at my place, well i do sort of. My neighbor has free internet through his work and I have a desktop and a laptop with Linksys wireless things<---see I'm a moron.
Anyway he lets me use his signal. So I try to set up connection through PS3 and it even finds his router(?). Has roughly 60% signal strength. Now when I try to connect to network it wont work. I cant do any system updates or anything. Now that GTA 4 has an update out I cant even play that.

I took my PS3 over to a friends house and hooked it up to his internet. He uses sn ethernet cable(?). Game updates are fine. He is telling me I need to buy a WiFi adaptor, is this true and where would be the best place to get one from. I checked Gamestop and Best Buy websites anf they done seem to have one.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If your PS3 can see his router that means it has wifi, you may need the wep key or to enter the mac adress on the computer connected to the router.

Wep key - basically a password to acces the router, if your friend doesn't know if he has one, then he probably doesn't, if it does have one there will be a small padlock, shown in a locked position next to the name of the network.

How did you connect your computer(s) to his router? You'll need to do the same again.
