I think you really need a better computer, or at least a desktop you can modify a little better.

I sit here in envy...
Oh well, at least it was only $400 last November.
Also, XP runs really well on it, and Vista is bearable.

I'm waiting until next year to get a new computer (probably a laptop), but for now I'm sticking with the dreamtape machine (it's held together with wishes and duct tape) that just about runs, although my videocard recently went out on me, so I had to revert to the built in video of the motherboard. I originally bought a system case so that I could buy every part as I had enough money, unfortunately every part I've bought so far has broken down. I think they built in a self destruct button in all of them.

Your CPU is letting you down, otherwise this setup would be near-perfect. On mine my gfx card is letting me down, but it is still very good.
Intel Quad-Core Q6600 2.4Ghz
Asus Striker Extreme (nForce Chipset 690i (I think))
OCZ Gaming Xstream 700w PSU
4GB RAM (Samsung, can't remember the speed)
nVidia Geforce 768MB 8600GTS
Will probably upgrade in a couple of years.

I disagree, I thought about getting a q6600 but The 3.0 instead of 2.4 is more important then the 2 extra cores considering nothing is quad threaded. I looked at benchmark comparisons and most people found that the e8400 performed better in games then the q6600 because games aren't written for 4 cores.

True, for gaming the dual-core is better for most games, but some of the newer games do support quad-core. But I do a lot of video editing, photoshopping/3d modelling so it makes a big difference to have a quad core for me.
