I can't seem to play MGS4 without it freezing

So, this afternoon I was playing Metal Gear Solid 4 when the menus become sluggish and an icon appeared in the top left corner of the screen. The icon was that of a disc with a flashing question mark over it. The icon shortly went away but a few seconds later the entire console froze, couldn't even turn it off manually without flipping the switch. I shrugged it off, flipped the PS3 back on and went back to playing the game. several minutes later it did it again, then again, and yet again. I decide to uninstall and reinstall, and after the 18 minute install time (supposed to take just 8 minutes) it didn't help at all, in fact, if it did anything it only made it worse because know I cant even load a saved game!

There isn't any scratches on the disc, I put a new HDD in it a couple weeks ago, i've tested another game to see if it would work and it does.

*sigh* Any ideas on what it could be?

well, logic tells me that if this has only been happening since you installed the new HDD, then something did not go right with that install. for troubleshooting purposes I would re-install the old HDD and go from there, if you don't get the same issue then you know it's the other HDD

I was hoping I wouldn't have to do that, but I guess I am. Oh well. I'll do that sometime today then. Thanks, Josh.

Yeah, I switched out the new HDD for the old one and know it works just fine. -_- I guess i'll be switching back and forth between the two..

I've uninstalled and reinstalled like three times now, and I even reformatted the HDD. Still no luck :/
