Hi Everyone this is my first post and I know it will be a sensitive one, Believe it or not I still own a PS2 and now a Wii however I would like to buy a PS3, I have been looking at it for quite some time now but I cant really see any reason why I would buy a PS3.
Dare I say it the 360 has loads of bundles out there and you can pick up a Elite for £259 here with 4 games and a extra wireless controller, Yes I know all the extras cost more if you want wireless is will cost you but here is something I noticed the 360 comes with a HDMI lead, PS3 doesn’t so basically that cancels out the cost of wireless, and yes the cost of online, I was thinking of this and if I buy a few used games a year that to will cover the cost for live. And now with the release of the Jasper its reliability is only going to get better it only took them 4 years to get it right.
Don’t get me wrong I am not a 360 fan but things look a lot better for the 360 and exclusives which always where PS are jumping ship to both consoles and now I see that 360 is having a limited edition console for Resident Evil. I must say great job ps3center for getting a cool red PS3 together. Why dose it have to be independents who take that extra step. Yes Sony has Killzone2 coming out very soon but what have Sony done to make me want to buy this game / console we get a nice Killzone2 BOX (WOW)
Are Sony just expecting the huge PS2 base to go out and buy a PS3 even now 360 sales in Japan (Sonys home turf) are raising.
ALL I CAN SAY IS COME ON SONY GET YOUR FINGER OUT AND MAKE US WANT TO BUY A PS3 (I REALLY DO WANT ONE). GET US LIMITED EDITION PS3’s WITH EXCULVISES AND DIFFERENT COLOURS.
Sorry it’s a long one for my first post but Sony aren’t doing anything to promote their console and making me want to buy one.

Hey Duracell,
first off welcome to ps3center, hope to see u more around here.
Now for your argument. You are partially right on this. I think Sony went somewhat in a different direction as they no longer just want to be your gaming console but also want to be your home media center aswel. We all know that when the PS3 first came out Sony were selling the system at a cost to themselves. They took a gaming console and gave it much more. Still a lot of people are still complaining about the cost of PS3 but you have to understand your getting a lot more quality and not just a gaming console. Now for the ordinary person who just wants to do gaming and arent going to using the extra features i can see where your coming from. As technology progresses sometimes people and companies have to raise the bar a little, this is the direction Sony is heading.
In the end to answer your question, it all depends on what you can afford and if you can see yourself using all the features and power that the PS3 has to offer.
hope this has helped!
:)

Hey Nicarlo, Yes I agree that sony want to offer the complete home media center, great and its a step in the right direction, and its the only firmware upgradeable Blu-Ray Player
I remember last years keynote speech at E3 when sony stated that this is a ten year venture with the PS3, I dont know how long it took them to design the PS3 but yet we are seeing rumors that certain companies have already won CPU/GPU design for the PS4 even if this takes 3 years to design and manufacture possible release date for PS4 in 4 years. Ive lost count of the years Ive had my PS2 mine isnt even the slim PS2 thats how old it is  and prob one of the best consoles, As I have read here in the news section that sony is now just about breaking even on the PS3 about time for a price reduction
I really cant wait to get my hands on a PS3 I was talking with a mate at work today and he has a PS3 60gb version which he said he might swap for my Wii. Which I have the H/B channel on it and a few extra but its getting my boys to part with the Wii... :crying:
I will guess I will have to wait for the next price cut:crying:god knows how long that will be. so come on sony.... !!!!

Yeah I know I kick myself if I miss out on that said the PS3 is like 18 months old. Not sure haven't read any bad things about the 60gb and it plays the PS2 games so I could play my PS2 game collection on it too..
One question is there a way to set the console to like new. format the drive or something to remove all his stuff and account from it, if I do the swap. dont think hes even hooked it up to the net and ran any updates on it.

Dude go for it man ... the 60GB PS3's are very hard to find these days... they're one of the few that played PS2 games to a certain degree.
Did he get an extended warranty for it? Either way, it's still not a bad deal...

First Well Come! Duracel! Haha nice name, Hope to see you around more!
Man that is an awesome deal!. I would love to get a 60GB PS3 even if its broken god, thats the best model you can find, but rare now. You see I have the latest 80GB and I'm very disappointed thinking I was getting at least the old 80GB that can at least play SOME PS2 games. But no it can't, I'm still checking on eBay trying to find a good price to sell my PS3 and get the 60GB lol. But yea Sony have fail in a lot. I really wish I can go back to the future to at least help them because I really love my PS3, I just wished I Sony do something before they get worst.

Great post and good points. I recently sold a 360 and bought a PS3. Here is why:
Yes the Jasper is apparently reliable...BUT...should your Jasper ever break I doubt you will get a Jasper in return. MS usually sends out refurbs and with over 25 million Zephers/Falcons etc in the wild there is a good chance of getting one of those as a replacement.
There are inexpensive HDMI cables out there. I would rather spend on that then on a wireless adapter anyday. With the PS3 you can swap out the HDD for a larger one if you ever need to. Microsoft's HDD's are ridiculously overpriced as most proprietary items are.
Now games, Killzone 2 Resistance 2 and GoW III is coming out soon. My genre is shooters so I am mentioning them. Most multiplatform games are no longer delayed for PS3 nor are they graphically inferior.
Don't forget with that HDMI connection, you can watch Blu-ray movies too.
Oops forgot to mention that with the press of a button on your controller you can delete whatever is on the PS3 and return the console to factory settings. Great console, built like a tank, gaming library is building, free online play and a 10 year commitment from Sony to back the PS3. Jasper, smashper IMHO.

i agree with everyone here lol. the ps3 is the better buy and here are some points i would like to add.
1. Online. We all like to play online. either if its even for five minutes. Why should we pay for it?? with sony you get free and i mean free online. no paying 50 dollars or 100 dollars with them unlike microsoft.
2. Games: all developers are realising the mistake they made whenm they ported games obver to the ps3. now, they are built natively on the ps3 then dumbed down to suit the 360. plus all the content that is loaded onto games just for the ps3 is amazing, so your getting great looking games and more content then you would with the 360.
3. Media center. If you are like me and most others, then you want one thing that can play your movies, music, pictures and is online capable to share those things. thats exactly what you get with the ps3. the 360 is just crap comapred to the ps3.
4. Warranty. Like someone said, you have a ten year backing on the console. TEN YEARS!!!! what kind of warranty is that. a Freaking great one. you probably get 5 year warranties on vehicles.
the bad thing about it though is that there is no backwards compatability on the newer models. i got my 60gb ps3 when it first came out. so i dont personally know the feeling but i also have a large collection of ps2 titles so it must suck not to be able to play them.

Yes there is, i've done it once before. Though you would have to delete his account manually. Accounts and updates are not stored on the removable HDD.
wow, this topic exploded with quality replies
Nothing I could say could add to what sauber and gamer76 have said so i won't spam
I am curious though as to what the thread starter (duracell) thinks about the latest batch of replies?
so basically "bump"

Well what can one say. Some fantastic replies and I agree with all of you.
I do have a couple of things which bother me..
Why has Sony made it so difficult for game developers as we all know they are still coming to terms with the capabilities and limitations (if any) of the PS3.
I understand that sony what me to have the ultimate media center I cant complain about that. its the direction sonys going in or lack of it. here in the UK I see very little advertising on the TV for the Playstation yet the other 2 loads of adverts I understand that times are hard now and joe public doesnt want to part with his pennies, but come on sony lets get the show moving already.
no more screw ups just simple ads and loads of nice packages to offer for Joe and guess what Joe might just part with his pennies.
I have been playing Killzone 2 this weekend at a friends house and I must say OUTSTANDING GAME. But where was all the adverts (I am sure the game developers would love to see it too) they make more pennies and can start work on the next great title for the playstation.
Do you think Sony lacks in this department (advertising)
i sense some fishing going on here... do i smell exec?
Anyways Sony DID spend alot adv Killzone 2, they went through the trouble of making several TV spots, paid through the nose to have K2 plastered at every imaginable event, gave interviews, opened forums, tested betas, made merchandise like figurines, apparel and replica guns, etc...
the fact that SOME people haven't seen any adverts is just a testament to how many people there are out there, and the niche Sony is aiming at.
Sony lacks alot of things, but advertising budget for Killzone was higher than most of its exclusives I think.

I wish I wish exec I would have a PS3 in every room :)
I dont know if its happened everywhere however the buggers @ M$ here in the UK have dropped the price of the 360 Elite down to £199 with a game.. :( about a £30 drop, now the PS3 is exactly £100 more expensive for the 80 gig version with Little big planet. cant fooking believe it..
Next move on Sony I guess so get a move on
oh forgot too mention as in the news here yet another exclusive goes multi platform are Sony losing the battle here ???
