Since the PSN prepaid cards are not in Europe yet im going to try and get the US cards. Does anyone know if the US cards will work on an EU console? I doubt it but i want to make sure.

Jeez I had a similar problem a couple months ago; they don't sell them here in Canada either. I'd appreciate it if someone could answer ColinR's question because I'd love to buy them.

Although I have a sneaking suspicion that it WOULD work if you reconfigured you're profile, since that's how alot of people have been getting Japanese/European content on their North American consoles by switching their area localization. But in this case, it'd probably be done in reverse

I cant imagine the cards being region locked. I have seen them in places like Best Buy. You can always send an email to Sony Help Center.

To use the US cards, you need a US account. It doesn't convert currency from Dollars to Euros.

Also, if you decide to just shop on the US PSN Store, be careful with DLC: it IS region-locked so if you have the European version of LittleBigPlanet, don't buy the US LBP DLC; only the European DLC will work.

that would be useful to have a credit card but some people are not old enough or would rather just use cash
but credit card is a good idea

I used a site long ago that let me "trade" in foreign PSN cards, I got my Japanese credits with it, but I need to dig up the URL again.

thanks, hopefully I am able to get one, my buddy tried to get 1 but was denied, don't know why though

Anyone know why they could deny you getting a credit card?
I just have to wait 2 months to get 1 because my birthday isn't until July

You could always try getting a Vanilla Pre-paid Mastercard, there apparently available at Shoppers Drug Mart Stores across Canada (I can't confirm that though, since I read about these cards on a forum and I haven't been to a Shoppers nearby to confirm this, I'll update soon when I know, shouldn't been long as there are 3 locations nearby), although I don't know about the loading procedure for the card, but I do know they are one-time use, you load it once, use the balance and that's it, if you want more you have to load another card, kind of annoying but whatever.

This works, it's what I did. They're at 7-11 as well. You just buy them pre-loaded with $25, $50, $100 or $250. They aren't re-loadable, they're basically gift cards.

Hopefully the PSN cards come out outside of the US, it would be a lot easier than these.

Apparently Canada has a bylaw that states software cannot be purchased via giftcards.

Wacky? Sure. Weird? Definitely.

But its true. Its the same reason why we here in Canada cannot buy Apps on the Apple store with iTunes giftcards.

Looks like PSN Canada won't be getting those cards anytime soon

I don't think that's true because the Xbox Live cards work here fine.

I heard a rumour and saw on Wikipedia that they are coming to EB Games at the end of June. Unfortunately I'm having trouble finding a source so don't get your hopes up.

EDIT: I'm also told this by an EB Games employee now. He said June 10th they were supposed to get them. But with my experience with EB employees, I wouldn't be surprised if he's just saying it to sound smart.

EDIT 2: Confirmed by another EB employee and a manager. They said 'They ARE in Canada. Available at EB Games. Some stores have them now, some have to wait a few more days.' Unfortunately I don't have a source to copy and paste here for you, I recommend calling your local store and finding out for youraelf. I'm doubting it because Sony hasn't mentioned it, so grain of salt, hope for the best, and maybe it's true. June 10th, 11th and 12th is what I've been told they'll be arriving.

While we're on the subject, Canada could have the PS video store by the end of 2009.

Now hopefully Europe gets them soon.

I'm pretty sure Xbox circumvents the law because you buy Microsoft Points, their own currency, rather than making you directly buy the software. Using MS points, you then proceed to purchase software. Even the exchange between MS and $ is wacky.

But this news of prepaid EB is certainly new to me. Where in Canada do you live? I feel the need to enquire at my local EB now, although not hearing a peep from Sony itself is troubling.

I'm in Calgary. I heard it originally from a friend who works at an EB in Ottawa then called one here to confirm. But I wouldn't be surprised if EB is just blowing smoke to sound cool, so I recommend checking yourself.

I can confirm that PlayStation Network Cards now exist in Canada at least at EB Games as I just bought one and the cards are region locked as it specifically states on the back Valid in Canada Only, they only had $20 or $50 denominations available but they do indeed exist and according to staff they just came in today. Also having just made my first purchase with a card, you are not charged tax when you buy the card in store, you should only be charged $20 or $50 even. The tax is applied once you make a purchase on the PlayStation Store so to buy Wipeout HD at $19.99 you really need around $23 with taxes.

I'm pretty sure $100 cards are also available in the States but it's not a huge deal, I also forgot to mention I wouldn't be able to confirm for any other province but Ontario but if it's in one I can't see why Sony didn't release them all over Canada.

To be honest, not at all. Sony is an international company, and they have different branches around the world organizing everything for them. Microsoft probably just got lucky with their localization on the MS Point cards, but Sony probably hit a roadblock of sorts, it always happens with international business, take the EU PSN for example. They're always late getting stuff up for the European PlayStation community, and that is because of localization laws.

My camera is charging now so I'll post pictures of the front and back of the card and the receipt proving where it came from in an hour to confirm the Ontario release. Once Snakepit can confirm or deny existence of cards in Alberta I would think we will have a definitive answer.

Edit: Just to be clear before photos are posted anyways, I purchased a $20 card, I'm too cheap to blow $50 on add-ons at the moment.

Alright here's some pics of the newly released cards, The pics show the front, the back that specifically states Valid in Canada Only and the receipt from purchase at EB Games. Sorry about multiple edits but I new to using PhotoBucket so I had a bit of trouble at first and I realized I've been blocking PhotoBucket on forums to avoid all those annoying signatures people tend to use, but I got it working.

Exactly, now we can all buy DLC, but what to get is my problem, I probably got hundreds of $ of DLC and downloadable games I want and only $8 left since I already bought the Premium Upgrade for Midnight Club. I was thinking Wolfenstein 3D but after playing the SNES version on an emulator to try it out I'm kind of skeptical since they made no real changes to the game in bringing it to the PlayStation 3. Anyone know what they are going to buy now.

I use to buy the Vanilla MasterCard Gift cards, but now I'll just buy the PSN Cards instead since there in Canada now and they have no activation fee unlike the MasterCard GiftCards.

In total I have 21 PSN games, and I have bought 3 PS1 games from the store aswell.

Well chalk me on up on second card purchase, already bought Midnight Club Premium Upgrade with the first one but I didn't have enough left over for much else so I bought the second card and got Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest For Booty and still have enough left to buy a $9.99 game with taxes, now what to get, so many choices.

EDIT: Ended up buying Bomberman Ultra as the final game, pretty fun too, especially the online modes, gets really frantic trying to blow up your enemy when the time is running down and space is disappearing.

It's actually kind of bittersweet now, as I already finished both the South Central Story Mode and Quest for Booty, in less than a week, Quest for Booty only took 2 days of 2 hour gaming sessions and South Central took 4 days spread out over hour gaming sessions. I'm starting to wonder if anything else is really worth it, I mean I've had $10 and I didn't want the final game to end up like the last too, thankfully Bomberman Ultra didn't turn out this way. Next up will be Flower, Super Stardust HD and Wipeout HD but that's a $50 card to buy as you have to include taxes.
