Does anyone plan on seeing the upcoming Prince of Persia film? It stars Jake Gyllenhaal (who I'm not really keen on), but I'm still going to give the film a chance, out of loyalty to the awesome series. Plus, it's being made by Jerry Bruckheimer, and his films are typically quite good.

My interest was sparked by this article: http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2009/07/first-look-prince-of-persia.html

Do any of you plan on giving a chance? Or are you convinced that all game-to-film adaptations suck?

Im actually a fan of the resident evil flicks, they are done extremely well. Im not the person that gets impressed with visuals, i like stories and how well its done overall instead.

As for PoP i beleive its the first game with an in depth storyline to it thats being made into a movie, so it will be interesting to watch. Jerry is a great director so no doubt it will be decent at the least. Maybe this film will lead into other deep movies being made like MGS or something. Im going to school to become a film maker so hopefully they dont take them all....

I'll wait for the reviews first (and yes, no mainstream review sites, although I do look at Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic since they are averages from all sorts of reviewers) since so many before this one have been the same but if it gets half-decent reviews I might just go see it, after all the games are amazing so as long as this movie can capture some of the great story from Prince of Persia I can't see why it wouldn't be great either.

I hope you mean either non-big time critic reviews (kinda like us here compared to bigger sites) or user reviews lol. I absolutely cannot stand "big time" critics, they come up with some of the most BS remarks to knock down a movie and to be honest some of them DO get paid off. I get to go to review screenings of movies here in AZ and half the time NONE of the "critics" even show up. there is one guy that runs a pretty big site about movies that goes to them all but he rarely disses a good movie, so i like reading his reviews.

As for past game adaptations sucking, anything Uwe Boll made doesnt count. In fact i think anything he made should be canned imidiatly and remade just to try and get those games a better chance. Also have to look at the time movies were made for like Mortal Kombat or Mario lol.

I agree that the resident evil films were well done, but do you really think MGS has potential as a film? I know it has many of the elements that would make a good film: action, strong script, etc.., but i've always thought of the actual game being too much like a film already, so an adaptation would be, in a way, pointless.

Speaking of film adaptations, I am really looking forward to the Uncharted film. However... i read a rumor that Matthew McConaughey (sp?) would play Drake. If so, you couldn't pay me to watch it.

Ive been interested in adopting MGS since i became interested in film making. I think it would take someone like me (just a fan with alot of heart in the franchise) to make it. Thats why when i heard David Hayter trying to pen the script i was rooting for him, he has ALOT of heat with it. A straight adaptation wont work and a "big wig" film maker wont do it right at all cus he will see it the wrong way.

I love Uncharted and cant wait to see the movie but if its mather mcConaughey then umm... so much for that attempt....I wont see it then.

:) I didn't realise you were so passionate about an MGS film, so I'm sorry for expressing my doubts - I'm sure if you're really committed and are coming from the perspective of a fan of the game, it can be awesome. Good luck!

It's comforting to know that I'm not alone in my hatred of Matthew McConaughey.

It will more than likely (99 percent sure) somewhere will take MGS before i even get the chance to do anything. I was thinking ill write a full 100 page script here soon based on the first game and just put it out there for people to see, maybe it will persuade who ever is making it to do it correctly.

And ugh! Uncharted being a chick flick? I think every guy is with you on that hate train lol.

I think the casting for this movie reeked of hollywood racism.

I'm undecided on seeing it, I do believe it has the potential to be as big as the pirates trilogy if handled with the same care, but whoever was in charge of casting must've been on hallucinogenics
