View Full Version : When will the bulky PS3 go out?

I just bought a ps3 three months back :(
And i want to know how many yrs down the line will sony start making softwares, or games which are only ps3 slim compatible?
Assuming there are no software differences between the two, other than the ability to install an OS, can i safely assume that ps3 will live along with the ps3 slim till the ps4 or ps5 comes in?

The consoles are exactly the same hardware wise for running games, hence both consoles will receive the same support until the next PlayStation comes out, same way it's been run for the past two generations of PlayStation, otherwise Sony would have a lot of ****ed off gamers coming after them. The same applies with the PSP Go!, Sony is continuing to release games on UMD and even continue selling the PSP-3000 while also supporting digital distribution of games. The difference with the PlayStation 3 is the fat console will eventually stop being sold and only the slim will exist but games will always work with both versions as they are identical for hardware for actually running games.

yeah why would you think that they PS3 slim would be able to play games that cant be played on the PS3 FAT?

The ps3 slim is the same thing as the classic ps3, but just in a smaller package.
Dont know where you would get such an idea but simply, no they are basically the same.

According to Yahoo the 160GB fat PS3 will remain on shelves regardless of Slim.

I think they meant that itll take longer to sell those, fabrication of the classic ps3's
is winding down if not ceased already

The 160GB was a limited edition (http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/5655.html), similar to the MotorStorm and Metal Gear Solid 4 80GB models of the past, once there gone, there gone. But apparently Sony gave the FCC 4 models of slim for testing, 2 dev units, the announced 120GB and an unannounced (http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/698455/Sonys-PS3-Slim-Secrecy-Revealed-Is-A-250GB-Model-Coming.html) 250GB model.
