The PS3 Slim was announced yesterday, literlly a day ago, and Cnet has already ran several articles in negetive viewpoints on it. Stating that its too little too late, or its bad for Sony, and now they are comparing PS3 Slim to Laptops....
Seriously...laptops?! They cant bash it around by comparing it to Xbox anymore so they are starting a Laptop vs PS3 war now? They dove into the PS3 weakpoints by stating "PS3 has no netflix support, it cant play PC exclusive games like WoW"...No Netflix? GOOD No Wow? Oh poor baby.
I saw that article today and it was annoying to see them going so far to bash the PS3 in any way they could. I left a comment and emailed the writer about how un-professional it is. Correct me if im wrong but wasnt it Cnet that was stating "PS3 is too expensive" a little while ago? Now they are refering you to even more expensive laptops? It seems like they take any chance at all to kick Sony and keep them down for as long as possible. I just wonder what happens if PS3 actually begins to sell like the Wii this holiday and starts to lead into PS4 victory? They will probably compare it to NASA computers or something, who knows.

Yesterday they posted the "its too late" when the PS3 slim was announced and another "why you shouldnt " get PS3 Slim or something like that.

Well it appears that all the comments are unanimous on that article, CNET, has freakin lost their minds, comparing an at least $2000 piece of equipment (I actually looked at at laptop with a Blu-Ray drive when I was buying my new machine, cheapest one I could get was $2300 and over my current one, all I got was the Blu-Ray drive, two hard drives instead of one but slower hard drives as well and an 18.4 inch screen) that can't support full 1080p and lossless audio vs. a gaming console that does all that, plays PlayStation 3 games and isn't portable. I think we can safely say, CNET has no credibility and should not be used for any sort of news, plenty of other sources for tech news that aren't so stupid.

Cnet sure has gone off the deep end as of late.. I used to love them so much too. Now it just seems as if they are trying their hardest to bash the PS3. Ah well

I don't understand why Netflix and Hulu are such a big deal... Just because the xbox has extensive support for it doesn't make it the industry standard. people buy a ps3 for the games, if i wanted netflix i might as well connect my laptop to the tv and watch...

Thats the point, they ran out of things to talk negative about PS3. They cant honestly compare it to Xbox straight up anymore because the price decrease and added features of 3.0. So they jump past that and go straight to 2 or 3 grand laptops. I mean even then, the PS3 still has a fighting chance, but come on if your paying 2 or 3 grand then of course the laptop will edge the PS3 in some areas. Another thing is if your spending that much their are computers way better than what they listed...Alienware perhaps since your wanting a gaming and multimedia machine?
I laughed at the fact that they said the screen is the bonus "For a laptop you get a 15 or 17 inch screen too"
Im not saying Laptops suck, im not saying the laptops they listed suck, im saying why are we comparing the PS3 to these computers when you were saying "400 dollars is WAY too much" last week? If you want to start a PS3 vs Laptop war at least do it correctly, strip down the laptops to only 300 dollars worth of equipment and come back to me when your done....Netbooks dont count.

Well then CNET has got the perfect laptop, in a recent article (http://news.cnet.com/8301-13924_3-10306057-64.html) they announced a few retailers have $299 laptops, sporting Intel Celeron processors at 2.2 GHz with DVD drives, integrated Intel graphics chipset, 160GB hard drive and wireless B/G support, so there you go CNET, next time compare something in the same price category and see how well you do.

They just reviewed the Slim and stated its the best Blu-ray player out there, but still gave it 4 out of 5 stars just like the fatty.
The negatives they listed was no backwards compatiblity, no netflix, no hulu, and PSN is not as good as XBL. For me I want to rant again lol. No BC, but its 100 dollars cheaper and may be coming soon...No netflix, but has a fully functional video store thats good for me and half of us dont even want Netflix....PSN is free, enough said....Finally Hulu (oh Hulu) they even stated "Its not Sony's fault" EXACTLY! So why the hell is this a negative? That and what other console can even offer Hulu? As far as im concernced their legal argument was that Hulu cant be streamed to TV because of legal issues, thus Wii and Xbox can't offer it and never did offer it.
Its like saying PS3 sucks compared to Xbox because it doesnt offer linux anymore and the background im using looks like crap. Thats fair...Cnet is supposed to be tech help to help people buy new things they are not sure about, how can we trust them at all anymore?

One question, when you have new and improved games coming everyday, why would i want to still play the ps2 titles? Does backward compatibility matter?
For example after god of war 3 comes, are people going to be bothered anymore with GoW1?
Also metal gear solid 4 was the greatest of the series... why would i want to bother going back?
It's like saying I played Killzone 2 and loved it a lot, but still i am going back to Counter Strike...?

As for God of War, according to the rumor they will be released on Blu-ray and since not all support backward compatibiltiy that either means they are remaking a PS3 engine version (doesnt mean much) or a BC update will be out before that.
You do however have a very good point.

CNET bashes everything Sony. Sony products never ( I should say very, very, very rarely) show up as an editor'stop choice. I think they are biased against Sony.
My 2cent on the B/C issue. 1st--Back when the PS2 came out Sony stated that all PlayStations will support BC in the future (meaning PS9 would support PS1 so on and so on.) The PS3 launced with PS2 hardware and this put a lot of pressure on Microsoft with the 360 since the 360 had a totaly different GPU (ATI) than the original Xbox (Nvidia). So Microsoft took a lot of in house talent to go back and reverese engineer a lot of original XBOX games to play on the 360. Which being a 360 owner I loved that I could play Halo 2 on the 360 at launch and other original xbox games. So for me the fact that Sony was B/C at launch created competition. Which is good for gamers. 2nd--I realy didn't play my PS2 that much between 2001 and 2007 so I have missed out on games like the MGS series and GOW series. So now I have to go back and play them. Right now I'm playing through the MGS series and I will be playing GOW soon. So I would like Sony to keep BC and make it better. I have a 80GB with software BC and it's OK. Microsoft did a better job on their BC. IMO
That was more like my 10cents on the BC thang.

yeah there are alot of companies like that that just BASH on teh PS3 for no real reason and then people believe it i mean really and Laptops how does a PS3 compare in anyway to a laptop? i didnt read the article yet but really?
EDIT: just read the article WOW epic fail so when the PS3 is cheap it is a better idea to go buy something alot more expensive but when it is ONLY 100 more than 360 it is WAY to expensive does this not make sense to ne one else

@glen when i was buying a camera they actually preferred Sony camera's. This is a differnt department of the site though so who knows.
As for BC, Sony has full support for all the PS2 games out and has upscaling capatibility. Xbox only supported a few games and even then i was hearing issues on it, then they just dumped it all together. The thing i kinda hate about PS3 BC is that online doesnt work with it, and some PS2 special's didnt work right. However in the future BC will be back via firmware, you can almost gurentee that now.
@dipchit They were saying Blu-ray compatible laptops are more value to the buck than a PS3 Slim. Saying people should stop going crazy over the price drop and realize PS3 isnt worth it.

Well we all know that the PS3 is easily the best console this generation. Also isn't CNET good friends with Microsoft?
As for BC,I bought my PS3 to play PS3 games.I still have my PHAT PS2,so when I want to go back and play MGS2,I just play it on the original console and I prefer to do that anyway. It's hard for me to play any PS2 games now after playing the PS3.I don't see how anyone can stomach last generation games after experiences what the PS3 can do.
