In the month of August, the PS3 moved only 15,000 units in Japan due to an increasingly short stock of the old PS3s. Since hitting the market on Wednesday, the PS3 sold 150,000 units in Japan, according to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu. This marks not only the a 900% increase over the entirety of August but also the best week for the console ever in Japan, with the console selling only 88,000 units at launch back in November 2006.

Meanwhile, VGChartz.com reports that the PS3 Slim sold 200,000 units across Europe, and 125,000 in the US. While neither territory was as supply constrained as Japan, both saw small hits in weeks leading up to the Slim launch.

yeah that is awesome news and i think that this Slim will boost sales more than the 360 price cut and i think we are seeing that now

I noticed MS has ads now "360 now 100 dollars off" but it doesnt mention it at 299 at all. Maybe they are hoping people dont realise they are the same price haha.

I noticed MS has ads now "360 now 100 dollars off" but it doesnt mention it at 299 at all. Maybe they are hoping people dont realise they are the same price haha.

But this is great news that more PS3s are being sold, maybe we'll get better stuff for our console now that developers see that more people are buying it because they'll see more potential buyers in the market

Awesome news. Let`s hope this trend continues, and why wouldn`t it with all the crazy awesome games coming out in the next 6 months (exclusives but also 3rd party games).
It`s a really good time to be a PS3 owner now these days and hopefully more people will realize this with the slim on the front.
