does it matter that the PS3 is catching up the the 360 in sales?

okay, I've been wondering, since the ps3 iscatching up in sales to the 360, will that change anything?

I have a few questions:
1. will this make multiplats any better on the PS3?
2. will this get us any more exclusives?

tell me what you think this means for the PS3?

Its a business related issue for Sony. PlayStation is a strong brand, but you have to look at how many strong brands Sony has. If the PS3 continued to fall in sales and not do well, then Sony would see no point in furthering the brand. Thus PS4 wouldn't get funding very well, and PlayStation would fall off the map. This proves PlayStation is still strong, and Sony should still fund it.

As for your questions.
1 It means more titles will be coming to PS3 instead of going exclusive to Xbox. Before, MS paying off devs was giving them more money to work with. Now if they do that, they are throwing away more than half their consumers, which will hurt them obviously. So PS3 is more "enticing" to the developers. Will games get better? That has nothing to do with sales, that has to do with developers being comfortable with the prorgamming it takes to make a PS3 title.

2 It could get Sony exclusives, but sales are not high enough to do so. Both consoles have about the same share of sales, so a developer going one way or another is a bad idea in both directions. The explanation as to why MS wont get exclusives applies to Sony as well.

Overall this is just good for business, and doesn't really mean much to the gamer. Other than third parties wont be so exclusive to MS anymore, there really isn't any need to worry about sales now. Sony did their part and PS3 is starting to lead the way this generation.

1. it may take more topics about PS3 , but i don't think it can last a long time!
2. i don't think it will bring us many more exclusives that's just the business anyhow , we can't count on it.

Dustin pretty much nailed it.....

Sony needs to play catch up in the US. I think it's like 10million behind the 360.

Mulitplats should always (in theory) get better with the bigger Dev's (like EA, Activision and so on) but smaller devs will lead on 360 and port to PS3. It's just an overall cost issue. Sony can't hold every bodies hand and teach them how to code for PS3.

I think in this economy exclusives from 3rd party are going to be rare and may be timed exclusives only. Like Dustin said "bad idea"... Where we see what dev leans to what console is in the form of DLC... MS has paid big bucks to Activision for the exclusive timed DLC as it did with Fallout3 and GTA IV.....Sony has AC:Brotherhood and has re-strengthen their relationship with EA to help combat MS's deep pockets. Now with PlayStation Plus and the PS3 making profits I wouldn't be surprised if Sony maybe played MS at it's own game.

I would like to see Sony play MS' game and possibly beat them at it

Me too...I've been waiting for the old Sony (from PS1 days) to come back...I remember the Crash Bandicoot commercials where they are outside Nintendo's Headquarters....Saying: "Hey, plumber boy!!!!!" like he's a whimp....A far cry from outbidding MS for some DLC but, still in your face marketing....

I don't think you will see that Sony until at least next generation. They have a smart campeign and are attacking the competition with new ads, but they can't spend money in advertising like that.

Sony as a whole has so many new products and so much new things to advertise its hard to say "here is a few million to advertise PS3." That and when you do it, MS is like an endless stream of revenue for advertising so it can easily fight back.
