Infinity Ward Exec's fired by Activision?

Hey I know we are all still commenting on the whole APOCALYPS3 issue right now but there are other things going on. Not sure if I should post this here but it does effect the PS3 in some way. Looks like some people have been given their pink slips in a parculiar way at Infinity Ward read here.

We know that Infinity Ward hasn't liked their relaitonship with Activision but is this getting a little out of hand. An escort out of the building by security?

This is crazy, IW needs to get out of their contract with Activision if they are resorting to these measures. I'm guessing the execs wanted to do something other than COD.

Not only has Activision lost their minds firing two of the guys that helped turn out a game that has made them a ton of cash, they have now announced that Treyarch will be releasing a new Call of Duty this fall, then in 2011 another sequel in the series will be out by a currently unannounced developer and also another Call of Duty-based title from developer Sledgehammer Games. That title will "extend the franchise into the action-adventure genre."

Apparently Activision didn't learn from the decline of Guitar Hero/music games in general, if you constantly pump out game after game, people give up and move on, MW2 already p***ed off enough people and now you want to pull this s***.

Well that and apparently good old Activision while riding high on cash right now does have a small problem, 68% of the revenue they earned in 2009 came from just 3 franchises, Call of Duty, Guitar Hero and World of Warcraft. Even better is apparently 98% of Blizzard's revenue comes from WoW subscriptions. Imagine if Guitar Hero after being ruined fails to sell any more, WoW took a nosedive on subscriptions and Call of Duty sold poorly due to the ridiculous schedule ahead. It wouldn't ruin them but it would get the shareholders angry and maybe Kotick replaced.

I guess Activision mostly only cares about the money, they lost me after Modern Warfare 2. I'm just not interested in any Call of Duty game anymore.
this is getting ridiculous

It would be best to know exactly what they were fired for before jumping to conclusions. Either way with their credentials I doubt they'll be unemployed for long. The more COD's the better. When there's a market for something it meanings people want it. I want it.

Of the 40 something games, the only Activision games I own are from Infinity Ward haha. Without IW I wouldnt own a single Activision game.

TBH though, they are not allowing them to do anything creative with COD anymore. Its obvious Treyarch is failing in the "innovation" department. The only reason COD5 was anything decent was because they ripped off MW and put it in WW2 with a bunch of annoying ambushes. I expect COD7 to be the same deal, but more emphasis on "Nazi Zombies" because thats all people liked about the last one.

Activision is going to end up hitting a wall just like EA did when they were the leaders. EA had nothing but sequal and sequal and they all started to suck bad, eventually people said eff it and gave up on their franchises. Now EA is re inventing everything and will soon be number one again.

You have Medal of Honor, Battlefield, Resistance, and a few others in the competition boat now. COD either steps up to the plate or gets tossed aside...FAST. DICE has already stepped up and said "hey we can beat these guys" and well they did easily, just imagine what MOH will be like.

Before Infinity Ward when they were making Medal of Honor under the banner of 2015 inc, things went sour and the leadership behind 2015 left, but a significant number of employees followed them.

Wonder if history will repeat.

hmmmm hypothetical situation... Sony, the most generous folks of all, should take IW into their wings, and ask them to make awesomesauce PS3 exclusives :P

While thatd be amazing, if they were going exclusive any which way it would be Microsoft. Without COD, 360 would of sucked last holiday and its quite obvious the IW crew is 360 fans lol...whens the last time you heard their guys on twitter talking about playing for fun on a PS3. While sony is good at picking up companies like that, MS wouldnt let that one go and we all know sony wouldnt fight for it.

apparently infinity ward havent recieved any royalties for mw2 yet..

and also the two guys who were fired were found breaching there contract with activision, they didnt neccessarily sign anything but were "talking and meeting with a rival publisher before there contract expires in october"

possibly, i think it would be awesome though if Sony picked up those 2 guys :D because lets not lie modern warfare 2 was all about the 360, i mean if robert bowling and stuff have 'fun nights' amongst each other and its always on 360.. but yeah ubisoft would be cool, rockstar would be interesting/different to..

but anyway im sure when the infninity ward contract runs out with activision, the brand will most likely re-hire the two guys

This issue probably will be in the spot light for sometime to come unlike the APOCALYPS3 which is now fading into the past. I'm not sure how many G4tv fans we have on this site but they have a segment called "feedback" every week on their web site and they discuss all of what has been going on this week in gaming. I highly recommend it.

Well it's getting more heated now with the two ex Infinity Ward employees firing back a lawsuit saying that Activision conducted an "Orwellian," "pre-ordained" investigation designed to "manufacture a basis to fire" the two of them so that Activision didn't have to pay their bonuses.

I won't bother trying to post the rest but if everything said in the article is true, Activision has got some splain to do, well that and it could getting Kotick sweating majorly, perhaps even kicked out the door if they actually won (since if they won it would also guarantee they have the rights to the Modern Warfare name and they would obviously take them somewhere else).
