Trying to get saved data off my PS3 onto a Windows Computer

Hi Everyone,

My PS3 recently became corrupted.

I now want to save all of the files from the disk inside the PS3 to another drive. Towards this end I have removed the original disk from the PS3 and plugged it into an external drive bay, which I have connected to Windows.

Does anybody know how to move the files from the PS3 drive onto a Windows drive?

I have looked all through Google, with no luck. Nobody even knows what kind of file system is in use on the PS3, e.g.: fat32, etc.

If anybody has any suggestions they will be greatly appreciated.

There's a reason why your efforts on Google have failed and that reason is you can't accomplish what you're trying to do. All of the contents of any PlayStation 3's hard drive are encrypted and hidden so that if you attach it to a normal computer you don't see a thing, it just appears as a blank hard drive. The only thing that can read the encryption is the original PlayStation 3 the drive came out of, even if you put it in another PlayStation 3, the hard drive won't be readable. It was done to protect sales and prevent game modifiers as if you could see the contents of the hard drive you could potentially copy purchased games and distribute them to other people or modify game install files. This is why Sony recommends you do regular backups of your PlayStation 3 to an external source so if things become damaged you can restore them from a backup.

Hi X_Racer1,

Cheers for the response.

You have more than cleared up my situation, I will not persist down the path of Windows (or any other for that matter).

Fingers crossed Sony have a descent warranty repairs department! :)
