EA Takes Another Piece

Yes as many forum members have mentioned/hoped for, it actually happened and was announced by press release today. Jason West and Vince Zampella have created a new studio (Respawn Entertainment) and the publisher for their games is none other than EA but unlike the current fight back over at Activision, West and Zampella will retain full rights to anything they create while under EA (EA just has publishing and distribution rights). Amazing reversal, EA is now the one gamers are starting to support while Activision is having gamers jump off the ship.

From Ea's David DeMartini and Frank Gibeau

Quote:
“Who knows what’s going to happen with Infinity Ward now that they’ve decided to blow up the creative guys that run the place.”

“The media has identified the non-Infinity Ward years as the B-team years, and just kind of picking that up from the media and looking at the review scores, they tend to drop down anywhere from 7-10 points in a non-Infinity Ward year.”

“Now that the team is in control of the games and brands, we can ensure that the fans are treated as well as they deserve.’”

“At EA, we’re honoured to be their partners and to give them the support they need to hire a team and return to making incredible games.”

that would be funny but I doubt Activision would let people quit without trying to keep something from them, like their royalties , since they are the ones that make the game that is probably Activision's biggest money maker

I'd say that Activision does make some games that I like more than MW though, like anything Blizzard makes, but I'm going off topic.

those guys that are at EA now are gonna take some good skills with them and I wouldn't be surprised if they're gonna wanna get back at Activision.

Activision can't make the staff members stay, they can only encourage them to do so and right now they are doing that by holding the royalties from anyone in the hopes to keep them around. Obviously it's not working since including West and Zampella, 6 people are now gone within a month and that number will only increase the longer Activision keeps things up.

If they share everything with blizzard, then I think Modern Warfare might come in right behind WoW

Their biggest money maker is actually World of Warcraft, it is consistently makes the most money (~$300 mil) every quarter. So even if they lose IW, I think that Blizzard will keep them afloat.

Well since the original thread posting and including Zampella and West, 13 people are now gone from Infinity Ward. The ship is definitely sinking for Activision and I wouldn't be surprising if Infinity Ward is completely disbanded or integrated with another Activision studio within a few months.

The infinity ward name is a well know one though, I would expect Activision to actually try and fill in the cracks left by the resigning employees than outright scuttle the studio
