SSX: Deadly Descents

Along with games such as Mass Effect 3, Resistance 3, Uncharted 3, etc. being revealed last night at the VGA's, SSX Deadly Descents was also revealed.

Now all we have at the moment is the trailer but assuming EA isn't playing some practical joke on us, the few seconds of footage shown seem to be pointing to this new SSX being a more serious, dare I say gritty game and like many have pointed out elsewhere, not exactly what everyone wanted to see out of a new SSX.

SSX at it's best is a game with bright colors, ridiculous characters and ridiculous tricks and tracks. This appears to do none of those things.

While I'll say I won't write off the game just yet, unless EA has a change of heart or we some footage that gives us a reason why we should find the game enjoyable, I think gamers will need to be digging out the old PS2/XBOX/GameCube to get our SSX action.

Well as it turns out this is no joke, EA really does plan on taking things to a more serious level. For the first time players will have to take into account conditions such as thin air, ice, etc and plan accordingly in terms of gear and more. Also the courses will be divided among 17 regions with 70 randomly generated mountains available to run down.

Needless to say while I'm still waiting for some actual gameplay footage, I must echo some of the comments left at the news article saying that so far this SSX is shaping up to become Call of Duty: Deadly Descents, not SSX.

Ehh... I think the series sorta peeked at tricky from what we've all seen.

I associate SSX with neon, fireworks and other light hearted aesthetics, Im not to sure
how much I like the idea of it taking a more sim based approach.

It's not all storm clouds though because the gliding segment of the trailer has got
me interested, I think incorporating a glide mechanic into the game, while simple, can
really amp up the fun factor.
