Premium PSN inches closer?

Well, its nothing more than speculation at this point but sony has registered
several domains under the moniker of 'Playstation Plus' , by the name
alone I can only see it inherently referencing the subscription model
of the PSN

If playing online is still free, then ill buy the service to support the decision. If playing online costs money (by any means, I wont put up with "its only free on weekends" crap) I will just go all PC gamer.

Sony has consistently said they are not going to start charging for the current level of PSN service, that will always remain free, it's only if they can offer services that go above and beyond current ones that could warrant an additional charge/subscription. You're still going to be able to play MW2 online for free regardless of what they might add.

okay, thanks, I will still be able to play games online for free, but on the MW2 side of things, Activision has hinted on a subscription for COD, glad I don't play that anymore

That would only apply to a future title, they aren't going to turn MW2 into a subscription game, they just make money off that game by charging $15 for maps.

More specifically:

"We also have new business models potentially for the franchise in the future and we've been building capabilities on both the business development side as well as the studio side of it. We remain committed to annualize the Call of Duty franchise."

charging $15 for map packs is still pretty bad though.
I was done with the Call of Duty series after MW2, but thats off topic.

I've sort of changed my mind in terms of premium PSN, I'm gonna give it a chance and see what it will offer, and maybe if I see something I like, then I'll check it out as long as it doesn't turn into Live

I still won't make a decision on paying until I see what is offered. From what I've read though it looks like it will be packaged deals and not per service fees, am I right?

As for the subscription fees for CoD that is something they are looking at for a future game that is going to be for PCs and based around a World of Warcraft model. I don't know if that means they'll be adding an RPG element to the CoD universe though.

The thing is they say "current service" which means the way things are now.

If they decide "well hey lets get server support like Xbox live" then its like saying "well if you want better online gameplay go buy it."

I mean I dont possibly see anything they could do that shouldnt be done for free to make PSN "better" except X cross game chat etc...The only thing they need to do is make it more clean. Have the logo everywhere with PSN blue menus etc...intrigrate it within the system and its games like Live. But like i said that should be a free update.
