A few problems with the PS2
I've recently run into some problems playing certian DVD's and GTa sa on my ps2. What I'd like to know is whether its just the lense (my PS2 is almost 4 years old) or do I need to buy a new slimline. I'd just like to know before I go wasting my money on either.

I have this same problem. Only a few of the games I owned would play and I thought it was lens problem. So I checked on the internet, but something went wrong and now my ps2 wont even turn on. Ill have to figure out how to fix it eventually. Most of the games I own are on ps2, so I have been only able to play a few games and I am getting kind of tired of them.

ninjasimon, the lens is most of the time the problem, if your ps2 started having a hard time reading discs, then stopped completly, then clean the lesn

Well my brother's friend's dad works with PS2s and he can chip them so I'll probably ask him about it.
On a side note: what is actually on the lense to make it dirty? (I know how to prevent dust getting on it but I haven't really done so until recently.

My first PS2 stripped the white gear inside. I could reset it but it would do it again in a couple of days so just went for a new one.

and ninjasimon, it is dust that make it dirty, use some coton (Q-tips) with alcool to clean it, then dry it totally, it should work afterwards, and if you have a spare make-up brush, clean the PS2 totallt, it's never bad to get it cleaned up

"fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me"
i like that :D and well, everybody should open their PS2 at least 2 times, to get to know how to do it perfectly, without breaking stuff, and to see where every wires plugs and NOT FORGET to plug them back in. Can't imagine the frustration if you forget to replug the fan, and the processor overheats and melts, or you forget to replug the power-supply wire, and have to open it all again, and this wire is kinda far, you have to remove 4-5 parts to be able to replug it

Well I managed to spill orange juice (in my sleep) all over my controller so I had to open that too :P. Normally it wouldn't be much of a problem but my controller has a ventilation system and therefor large gaping holes in the side so it just went straight through, I decided to rinse it out with extremly hot water (well it hurt my hand). The dry it out with my hair dryer and leave it for a couple of days.

I never open thing unless if i absolutely have to. I like to leave things the way they are. Thats why I dont want to open up my pc when I buy a new router for my network. Cause with the router i want to get you can only ahve an internal network adapeter. It kind of sucks that I have to do it but oh well.

well, opening a computer is easier than opening the PS2, so you can't have a hard time
