which was better the PS2 or the original XBOX?

I was just wondering which was better the PS2 or the original XBOX?

I didn't really know anyone with an orginal XBOX but people who did have 1 said it was a lot better than the PS2

I wanna get more people's opinions though

I dont think there's any real argument to be made, all the must have franchises were mainly on the PS2, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry etc etc.

I mean what was better before the 360 or PS3 came out, u are right though all of the MUST have franchises are on the PS3 though

Well, I had both consoles and ultimately switched to the XBOX permantely around May of 03.

Um, yes PS2 did have all the heavy hitters (XBOX had a few exclusives as well) as mentioned above, but the XBOX out of the box had 4 controller ports, network connnection, 10gb HDD, and a very fuctioning online service (this came a little later). So hardware wise I would say XBOX was better but software wise PS2 was better. It would be fair to mention that if it was a multiplatform game it looked better on the XBOX. I remember when Splinter Cell went to the PS2 and it looked horrible and when GTA was released on XBOX it looked better.

The reason I stuck with XBOX was back in the day I was a big sports game player and XBOX just had a better online service with it's games. Granted it took EA a few years to come around and support XBOX LIVE. I think it came around in 04.

It's funny how I hardly play sports games anymore. I guess we evolve as gamers. Not that there is anything wrong with sports games. I just perfer story driven games more now.

I owned both consoles, never really touched my xbox at all but i played my PS2 EVERYDAY lol.

In simple terms...Xbox had the better tech, but had crappy games. PS2 had the library of FUN (emphasis on fun) games, let alone like thousands of games of any kind. Thats why i loved it, was a great console.

Just glad PS2 online is a thing of the past.

I'mglad about that as well

but PS2 did have an extremely wide library of games, I think thats one reason why its so popular, besides the price

the Xbox probably had better tech but not the games really, so it wasn't really as popular, I only knew like 2 people with an Xbox
