The classic theme simply turns off the sparkles, otherwise it's exactly the same, the same ugly friends list, the same annoying What's New bar, etc. Boy I hope they give us the option to go back to a truly classic theme option one day.

Well I did it. I updated last night and I'm not impressed. Did anybody have any problems with games freezing after the update?

I haven`t had any issues since the update, been playing Eat lead and Bf1943. Sounds weird, hopefully it was just a coincidence.

Apparently there are freezing like you said, there`s many reporting that Uncharted is freezing every 20-30 minutes.

If you're ****ed about the update then you're probably too picky and stress little things that don't matter. There, I said it.

Lol.

but seriously it doesn't look bad at all, just slightly different.

I personally don't mind this update, I think it looks pretty good. The big font is a little distracting but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Friends list does look ugly, but I don't spend even 5% of my time looking at my friends list when playing PS3 so it doesn't really matter too much to me.

bharat i believe you gotta dload it off the PSN Store? Not sure as im not UK but thats what you have to do for the music service.

As for freezing, i havent bothered to play games yet...havent had time. However im noticing the time it takes to connect to PSN is very long now, i used to be signed in before my PS3 even loads my XMB, now i can scroll over click it, watch a video, take a nap, drive to hell and back, and it still wont be on yet. (ok part of that is sarcasm lol)

Idk, I dabble in design and think a lot of basic elements of good design were ignored.

I hope the backlash will at least give us an option to streamline things, it currently
looks like fisher-price helped design it

Dammit, I just got Uncharted the other day and was a few chapters in when I downloaded the new firmware. Now it doesn't work.

Well nothing has froze yet for me but all I've played are PixelJunk Eden, the PixelJunk Monsters Demo, Rockband 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Still waiting to do testing on Grand Theft Auto IV as it seems to push the system pretty hard, also might throw it Army of Two just because it seems plenty of EA games have problems on the PlayStation 3, especially early games.

I don't know what it is but I just don't like the new logo. I want my old "spidey font" back. Otherwise the new firmware is OK. Nothing to be impressed about and really I don't care about dynamic themes either. I want something sleek and sophisticated.

It appears the Uncharted issue is indeed a problem people are experiencing, Kotaku's even picked up the story, also appears that Hong Kong DualShock 3 controllers have problems with the firmware update as well.

Yes, but many people have imported them into North America because they have had white DualShock 3's for a while now, where new colours are just hitting North American retail stores now. Although I don't see why you would want a white controller for a black PlayStation 3.

My guess is a small update will be issued for the firmware within a week or so, probably 3.01 just to resolve the issues, similar to what the did when a previous firmware revision caused some PlayStation 3 consoles to become unusable.
