PS4 to use multi-core processor?

Not sure if I believe this or not. Sony put a lot of R&D money into the "cell" and I can't see why they would be so willing to abandon it already. I know 3rd party devs have issues with the PS3 architecture but that is partly due to the 360 being more PC like than a gaming console. Thus 3rd party goes the 360 route and then ports to the PS3.

With the 1st party devs really showing how to develop games for the PS3 (al a all of the 2009 PS3 exclusive line up and so far 2010) I can't see why Sony would just throw it away. Why not just put 2 cell processors in the PS4? Oh, maybe because they are getting pummled on console sales this gen and need to rethink thier entire business plan. The $599 launch price tag really killed the PS3.

The article says they are just looking at ideas so nothing definitive as of yet.

You guys got any comments on this.

Itd be somewhat smart to have both architectures possible for developers. Then they can go the easy 360 route, or get more power out of the Cell. Or combine the two and make something amazing.

You gotta think the Cell development is ALOT cheaper now. In fact IBM and the others have even advanced it even further, which in return will make that technology cheaper come PS4. If they stick with it then devs wont have to learn a whole lot.

i have heard that they are thinking about getting away from but i dont really believe it. Like both you have said they put alot of money into the Cell processor and it will be alot cheaper to produce once the PS4 is ready to be released and i honestly thought that the PS4 could just be like the prototyped PS3 back when they first announced it, with a slightly improved graphics chip and processor.

At the same time if they just throw more of what it has into the machine, they really are not giving us anything new. Its like having to buy a new computer because it has two graphics cards, more ram, and a better processor in it. Instead of just updating the one you have.

I still believe PS3 is just a transition to PS4. They experimented, went out on a limb, and done alot. It all comes together with PS4.
