The highly anticipated SOCOM Confrontation launched to rather poor reviews due to its lag, glitches, and server problems. Though a patch was released as a quick fix to make the game actually playable, the 1.30 patch is supposed to contain a number of major fixes. Though a list of fixes was announced nearly a month ago, it has recently been revealed that the patch will also add d-pad leaning support.
Currently, leaning is done using sixaxis controls, a function that many gamers have complained about as a pain to use. However, Slant Six Games (the developer) has listened to the complaints, and has opted to allow users to choose which control scheme they prefer. Gamers will even be able to toggle between sixaxis and d-pad controls in-game through the pause menu.
Unfortunately, no release date has been announced yet for the 1.30 patch. Considering the massive amount of improvements it is scheduled to make, it makes me wonder whether Slant Six should have delayed the game in order to release a higher quality product. Low reviews across the board undoubtedly hurt sales for SOCOM and tarnished the franchise’s reputation as a solid online shooter. Hopefully with the release of 1.30, SOCOM is able to regain the massive fan base it enjoyed so long on the PS2.
