Working on PS3 isn't "too tough" says Res Evil 5 dev
Posted on December 22, 2008 by Nick

The PS3 is often lambasted for being excruciatingly difficult to develop for.  This is especially the case in multiplatform titles, with an EA developer once even describing the process as 'trying to fit a triangle shape into a circle hole'.

However, in a recent interview, Resident Evil 5 producer Masachika Kawata spoke about his experience programming for the PS3.  He admitted that he "can't really say that one platform is proving more problematic than the other".  Going even further, he added "I haven't found [developing for the PS3] to be too tough".

With the PS3 now into the second year of it's life cycle, could it be that developers are finally figuring the console out?  Capcom's Kawata certainly seems to think so.

Resident Evil 5 is due out March 2009.

Heh, I guess it goes to show that if you put your mind to it nothing is ever too difficult to do. I guess maybe since people were accustomed to a certain programming environment (360), when going into a different set of tools (PS3) it seemed daunting. Time will tell, and from the looks of Resident Evil 5, it looks VERY SWEET.

Guess it goes to show that a little time invested without probable worries of rushing a title you could explore the power of a system and understand what's under the hood. It shows in the current demo they released. Within the 3rd year, everyone will experience an easier development, at least I believe so.
