Though many users have been voicing complaints about Home since its public launch, Sony seems to be very pleased with it, at least on the money-making side of things. An active community has been forming around Home, and many are willing to accept the charges to deck their virtual persona and apartment out in the latest gear.
According to Susan Panico, Senior Director of the PlayStation Network, the nickel and dime charges in Home produced more money for Sony in its first four days of launch than the $15 movies in the video store did in their first week. She referred to this as the 80/20 model, “where 20 percent of your customers create 80 percent of your income.” As for the hottest item in Home? The ridiculously overpriced Santa suit...
Panico also talked about the reports of harassment in Home, reiterating Sony’s no-tolerance policy and encouraging users to report abuse and take advantage of the “mute avatar” option. Apparently, Sony is scaling up the moderation team, so this will hopefully become less of an issue soon.
