Street Fighter IV went on sale in Japan yesterday, simultaneously for the PS3 and XBox 360. The title had a pretty good opening day, selling 86,000 copies in total. The PS3 version sold 58,000 copies, while the 360 version sold 28,000.
The title will chart as the best selling PS3 fighter in Japan, barely outing Soul Calibur IV by a mere 1,000 units. Overall, Soul Calibur IV still retains the best opening day record on the current gen systems, selling 92,000 copies. Virtua Fighter 5 sold about 42,000 copies.
Street Fighter IV marks the first major series update in over 10 years, and finally crosses the gap into 3D, a first for the core series. The title has been largely praised for it's return to the franchise's more casual roots. Street Fighter IV is due to go on sale in the US next week, on February 17, for the PS3 and XBox 360. |
