Gran Turismo is notorious for long development times, and GT5 is continuing in that same vein. Although GT5: Prologue, a small glimpse of the final product, was released early last year, news on the progress of the latest Gran Turismo has been relatively scarce. We’ve heard release dates thrown around, everywhere from late this year to even 2010, but nothing solid has ever been pinned down. Unfortunately, Polyphony Digital is still being coy about when GT5 will be finished.
In a recent interview with VG247, SCEA’s director of hardware marketing, John Koller, stated that GT5’s release across “all platforms” is dependant upon “what makes the most sense.” While this statement tells us pretty much nothing about when GT5 will see the light of day, Koller’s use of “all platforms” is rather interesting.
We’ve all assumed that GT5 would only be hitting the PS3, but perhaps development on the PSP Gran Turismo title is further along than we think. In the past, it was assumed that the PSP version would be a separately developed title, independent of its console counterparts, but Koller’s statement raises the possibility of a full blown GT5 in handheld form. Considering the scope of the game, this seems rather unlikely simply due to the technical limitations of the PSP, but if any developer could accomplish this feat, it would be PD.
More news on GT5 is expected at E3, but until then, stay tuned to PCN for the latest PlayStation news! |
