Rumors of a downloadable patch to add co-op play to Killzone 2 have been flying around since before the game’s launch. While those rumors seemed to die down for a while, they began flaring up again when many speculated that the second DLC package for KZ2 would be a co-op patch. However, Guerrilla Games themselves have squashed this rumor in the latest issue of Game Informer.
Talking to the magazine, Managing Director of GG Herman Hulst had this to say: “We looked at all the different flavors of co-op early on, but decided our first priority would have to be the single-player experience and the multiplayer. Rather than just tack on co-op, it would have to be integrated and done to a similar standard as the single and multiplayer. Having looked at it again now, I do not think we would want to add it as DLC.”
It’s really a shame that GG doesn’t want to add co-op to KZ2. The original Resistance had one of the most fun co-op campaigns I’ve ever played, and that game literally stuck a random, unexplained character in as the second player. I would be open to a similar system in KZ2, as co-op is more about having fun with a friend than worrying about the little details of a game. Stick in a second player, double the enemy strength, and I’m good to go!
