First person shooters are all the rage in Europe and North America, though the same is not true in Japan, where even critically acclaimed shooters like Bioshock fall by the wayside. Nonetheless, the critically acclaimed, Sony exclusive Killzone 2 has even impressed stalwart Japanese critics. The first person shooter received 90/85/80/80 marks from Dengeki PlayStation and earned a 32/40 from Famitsu, two of the largest Japanese gaming publications.
Though Killzone 2 was released way back in February for western audiences, the title is set to debut later today in Japan, on April 23. To date, the best opening this generation for a first person shooter in Japan lies with Halo 3, which sold a bit over 60,000 units it's first week. Resistance 2 sold just over 30,000 copies in it's first week. Will Killzone 2 take the position as the new top dog? With only a day left until it's release, we won't have long to see. |
