Way of the Samurai 3 has had a rather convoluted life cycle so far. The game, the latest in the long running samurai franchise developed by Acquire, was originally announced as a PS3 exclusive last year. WOTS3 did well commercially and critically, receiving good reviews and moving nearly 100,000 units it's first week in Japan.
Once the near year rolled around, the game was ported to the XBox 360, and in February, UFO Interactive announced it would be publishing the game in the North America. The kicker? UFO, a relatively small publisher, is only licensed to put out games for the XBox 360, which indicated the game would be an XBox 360 exclusive in the US.
If you're one of the 7 samurai eagerly following this title, take a deep breath and relax. It appears the game will be making it's way to North American PS3 owners as well. Agetec will be behind the PS3 version, confirmed by Agetec producer Mark Johnson, launching the game side by side with the 360 version this October. The PS3 version will also include all bonus content added to the 360 version.
This just begs the question though - why did Spike go through all the trouble of hiring 2 seperate publishers? |
