Heavy Rain: 170 Days of Motion Capture
Posted on October 16, 2009 by Shak

Heavy Rain looks set to take character realism to another level, and now we know why.

In a new special presentation video available on the official Japanese PlayStation website for Heavy Rain, Quantic Dream have mentioned that Heavy Rain required 170 days of total motion capture. This is the equivalent of 3 motion pictures and was required so that total motion capture could be possible.

So what does this mean for Heavy Rain? Well it means Quantic Dream have been able to capture eye movements, as well as standard facial motion capture. Be sure to check out the full video at the link provided above.

Looks like video games are finally eclipsing movies in the human involvement angle also. Between this and the amount of voice work (VO) for Star Wars the Old Republic, it is amazing.
