For all we know Insomniac started the idea then Naughty Dog beat them to the punch, but I had to get your attention somehow. In fact I think Insomniac has always done this. Insomniac just announced that Ratchet and Clank Future : A Crack in Time will reward players for playing the old Quest for Booty and first Future titles.
The first "perk" the game will unlock is discounted prices on new weapons. When buying a weapon at any of the shops the game will reconize you as a "returning customer" and give you discounted prices on everything. The second is a pirate avatar for your online community stats, basically just the avatar everyone see's when they view your player stats. Ratchet will be wearing a pirate hat and some other neat things.
