While From Software has stopped short of actually calling him Link(he's known simply as Green Hat in the data file), it's obvious that's who it's supposed to be.  Considering the whole game is clearly inspired by the Legend of Zelda, it's only natural for players to create a Link character.  Still, it seems like a risky move for From Software to actually do this themselves.
