THQ may be down for the second quarter, but they have been very actively setting themselves up to have a tremendous 2009 fiscal year. With both UFC and Red Faction turning out to be big hits for publisher, the company strives to finally hit profitability for fiscal 2010. The publisher expects holiday sales to be driven by new releases WWE Smackdown VS Raw and MX VS ATV Reflex, as well the previously mentioned UFC Undisputed.
When questioned about about the viability of PS3 platform during the investor Q&A, THQ CEO Brian Farrell told investors that he was particularly "pleased" with PS3 sales after it's September price cut. He notes that new PS3 buyers appear to be upgrading PS2 owners, and the publisher is "pleased with the momentum of the PS3 as it continues to convert PS2 users". With over 140 million PS2 owners out there, this could be a huge turning point for Sony's maligned console.
Farrell also brings up the success of the 360 as well, but hesitates when talking about the Wii, bringing up concerns on the consoles software tie ratio.
