With Sony's motion controller hitting early next spring, a lot of the peripheral's launching line up is shrouded in mystery. While early adopters of Sony's motion tech will be treated to reimagined versions of LittleBigPlanet and Resident Evil 5, they certainly won't be playing BioShock 2 with any waggle action. 2K Marin has confirmed that the newest entry into the BioShock franchise will be devoid of any motion controlled gimmicks, but did mention that it could be an option for future games in the series.
Speaking on his team's latest project, the follow up to the 2007 smash hit BioShock, 2K Marin's Jordan Thomas tackled the issue of motion controls. "These [motion controllers] that you're talking about are at least an attempt to make the body the interface," Thomas explains, though quick to point out that " human interface is a challenging sort of overhead for our medium". Thomas describes them as "powerful" interfaces, but implies that they won't be used in BioShock 2.
However, he doesn't completely dismiss them from seeing some use in the BioShock franchise somewhere along the line. "[Motion control] does offer the opportunity for my grandma to maybe play BioShock in adventure game mode or whatever in 2015." Thomas says, laughing "If in the future these interface revolutions, let's say, give us the ability to allow maybe even non-gamers to enjoy that sense of freedom, I'm all for it."
Bioshock 2 is due to hit shelves February 9th, 2010, for the PS3, XBox 360, and PC.
