We made mention earlier about possible Facebook integration within the next firmware update for the PS3. Subsequently, this has been confirmed, as well as a revamped photo gallery and a few changes to the Friends list (let's hope for a more svelt looking change). But what does Facebook integration really mean? This firmware is 3.10 for those keeping score.
You will be able to link your Facebook account directly to your PSN account and have the PS3 auto update your newsfeed with things like Trophy and Store activity. Thankfully, for those of us that don't feel the need to be totally connected all the time, there will be the option to turn it off. The modifications to the Photo section will make it easier to see more of them, so we're told.
Ah, but when is it coming? Unfortunately, no news yet on that front but we will keep you updated.
Sony will ‘soon’ release firmware update (v3.10) for the PlayStation 3. As recently speculated, the next firmware update will include Facebook integration, a revamped photo section, and a change to the PlayStation Network Friends List.
With the new firmware, you’ll have the option to link your PSN account directly to your Facebook account. You will have the option for your PS3 to automatically update your Facebook News Feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store activity. Sony also says that this new integration enables developers to publish game information to your News Feed. If constant PSN updates to your Facebook account don’t sound too appealing, you’ll have the option to turn this feature off.
The firmware update will also change the Photo category on the XMB, essentially making it easier to see more of your photos. Back when Sony released firmware update 3.00, many owners complained about the PSN Friends List. Sony has responded to this feedback by modifying the Friends List, and allowing you to choose a color for you PSN ID on the XMB.
