We reported last month that PS3 was seeing some supply shortages. These shortages are set to continue for at least a little while longer, says SCEA Director of Corporate Communications Patrick Seybold.
“There is incredible pent up demand for PS3 right now and with incredible software momentum right for PS3 with Heavy Rain, MLB: The Show, BioShock 2 and God of War III, Final Fantasy XIII, so we expect to see
inventory to be tight for a bit longer,” said Seybold, speaking to VG247. “We’re working hard with our retail partners to meet that demand.”
Though Seybold cites an increase in popularity for the console as the reason behind the shortages, other sources indicate that Sony may be having trouble getting the components to make the PS3. Because of the economy, several electronic component manufacturers have been reducing their output, which leaves big manufacturers unable to produce hardware.
Despite that, both EEDAR and Wedbush Morgan Securities are expecting the PS3 to be the only console up year-over-year in the upcoming NPD results. |
