Earlier this year, I teased that Codemasters was working on a new FPS, which I believed to be Operation Flashpoint 3. Well, turns out I was only half right - Codies is working on a new FPS, but it is not OF3. The UK-based developer confirmed earlier today that their secret FPS is a brand new IP, called Bodycount.
Bodycount is a new first person shooter, touting genre redefining gameplay that "comes alive in an orgy of bullets and destruction". A tall order, but Codemasters has enlisted the help of Stuart Black, creator of the popular 2006 shooter, Black, to ensure the title lives up to it's premise.
Bodycount places the player in the middle of a global power struggle as an agent with the go ahead to elimiinate their opposition. The title features a fully destructible environment with a gauntlet of contemporary weaponry. Online competitive and co-operative multiplayer will also make an appearance in the game as well.
"If Race Driver: GRID™ was all about the purity of racing, then everything in Bodycount is absolutely centred on the bullet and its impact on the world," said Bodycount creative director Stuart Black. "Our shredding tech enables us to create a different kind of gameplay, where players and AI can’t hide behind indestructible cover and rely on whack-a-mole mechanics. Here the environment is constantly changing as the game world is shot to hell; it’s going to be a huge amount of fun.”
Bodycount is due out for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Q1 2011.
