Lets face it, when the number come out its usuelly not good for Sony. Usuelly posting losses and looking like the PlayStation division is killing them, what can we say? Well everyone, including Sony, had faith in PS3 and kept pushing it for a good cause.
PS3 is now in the profit zone for Sony, instead of causing losses. Sony has posted a 25.7 billion yen profit, yes profit, for the first quarter. Thats 110 percent increase over their 37 Billion Yen loss at the same time last year. The sad news comes from Sony's Network Division, at which the PS3 sales are tallied. They posted a 3.7 billion yen loss, but its still an improvement over last years 36 billion yen loss.
PS3 itself is doing amazingly better and helped with the turn around by nearly doubling both hardware and software sales. Hardware stood at 2.4 million units sold, an increase from 1.1 million, and Software stood at 24.8 million unites, up from 14 million. PSP sales are stable in the same area, with a slight increase in software from 8 to 9 milllion. Sony is planning on selling over 15 million PS3 units this year, but are forcasting a drop in both PSP and PS2 sales.
Looks like the new technology and recent push for 3DTV and PS3 are working for Sony!
