If you have recently just come out from under a rock, you may have realized PlayStation Network is down. Every service connected with it is also down. The error we get is for maintenance and yet we don't know why. That is until now.
Sony has confirmed that the reason behind PlayStation Network being down is indeed due to hackers breaching security and stealing account information. With this, Sony has noted that your account name, login, address, purchase history, purchase details (including credit card information) and many other things have all possibly been taken by a hacker.
Sony did note that PSN was taken down for this very reason. They have also hired a third party company to find the hackers and the help seal the holes in the network. Sony also has a team working 24/7 to rebuild the security structure of PSN and make sure it is stable before putting it back online. They noted that PSN should be live again within a week.
